There is an ongoing national effort to
standardize homebuyer education. In fact,
the nationally recommended minimum is eight
(8) hours contact hours for classroom
instruction. In our region, The Association
of Housing Counselors, based in North
Carolina, offers biennial certification for
housing counselors. TAHC requires a minimum
of 32 continuing education hours for
recertification. In addition, The Federal
Home Loan Bank of Atlanta requires that its
down payment grant recipients attend
homebuyer education that includes a long
list of topics, including predatory lending
and foreclosure prevention.
All this knowledge benefits you, the
prospective borrower and homebuyer, by
helping you make informed choices
Together with a variety of local lending
institutions we have taught homebuyer
education classes in Beaufort, Jasper,
Hampton and Colleton counties for seven
years.
Our classes offer

Responsibilities of homeownership
Completion of the
homebuyers course, combined with income
eligibility, qualifies our graduates for gap
funding from the South Carolina State
Housing Trust Fund, the Federal Home Loan
Bank, and other special down payment
assistance programs.
